Travel Grants

We currently have two grants available: Comsoc Travel Grant and ComSoc Student Travel Grant. Please see the details of each one below.

ComSoc Travel Grants

The Conference Travel Grants (CTG) are a newly established IEEE ComSoc grants program, which aims at providing partial financial support for participation in IEEE ComSoc conferences. The requirements for eligibility to the CTG are:

  • Applicant must be a ComSoc member
  • He/she must be a conference participant
  • Unable to obtain sufficient substantial funding from  own institution or other sources, and forced to cover most of or all the associated expenses with own funds

Priority will be given to:

  • Authors of the Specific Conference Papers
  • Presenters of accepted talks
  • Those residing in a country with a low Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita

A committee of volunteers will be appointed for each selected event to  gather and evaluate requests for support, based on the following agreed rules:

The candidate will make a request for financial support by giving the reason for the trip and with detailed estimation of traveling costs and  why  he/she cannot obtain such funding. The candidate will indicate his/her financial shortcomings.

The candidate will be able to submit his/her request through the EDAS (https://edas.info/G.php?g=733). Documents to be provided:

  1. short CV
  2. country of residence and country of birth
  3. ComSoc member number
  4. accepted paper number (if any)

Any non-compliant request will not be considered. Ranking of the candidates will be done in this order of descending priority:

1) GDP per capita of the country of residence/work

2) distance of the country of residence/work from the conference venue

3) paper/talk review evaluation

CTG will be paid as reibursement after the confernce and only if the goal of the request is achieved. A recipient of CTG cannot accumulate any other ComSoc Grants for the specific conference.

Depending on the number of eligible candidates, each conference travel grant at IEEE MEDITCOM 2023 will have a minimum value of US$500 and a maximum value of US$1,250.

ComSoc Student Travel Grants

IEEE MEDITCOM 2023 offers a limited number of student travel grants (STG) to the students who registered and co-authored an accepted paper, on a competition basis. Each award is subject to travel reimbursement.

Applicant Eligibility:

  1. The student applicant must be a student member of the IEEE Communications Society.
  2. The student applicant must be a co-author of an accepted paper in IEEE MEDITCOM 2023 and present it at the conference in person.
  3. The student applicant must be a full-time student registered toward a Bachelor’s, Masters’, or PhD degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field in a college or university when submitting their applications.
  4. During the expense reimbursement stage, the student applicant must show proof of having registered to attend the IEEE MEDITCOM 2023 conference.

A student who is awarded a student grant must register, attend and present the paper at the conference. More details will be provided to the students who are selected to receive a ComSoc STG award.

We encourage participation from underrepresented groups and diverse institutions across all geographical regions. Women, minorities, beginning graduate students, and first-time conference attendees, are especially encouraged to apply.

How to Apply:

Click on the EDAS link (https://edas.info/G.php?g=732) to start the application. Please have the following materials ready:

  • Student Statement Letter. A half to one-page letter from the student should include the following information: (1) A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date (students should demonstrate a serious interest in networking, through their coursework and projects). (2) A statement on the purpose of attending the conference.
  • Conference Registration Confirmation Number. Applicants must register to attend the conference. If you have already registered, have your registration confirmation ready. To view the registration page, click here {insert link to registration page}.
